PATA 1986 One Ringgit Coin

Vintage coin to commemorate PATA ‘86 Malaysia 35th Conference.  The conference held from April 9-16 1986. The coin is minted by Singapore Mint with mintage of 500,000. A one ringgit copper nickel coin.

Vintage 1970's Ever-Trust Altimeter & Barometer is made in Japan. A good handy tool to carry in your pocket without the need for battery. It is a mechanical device and if handle with care can last a life time.

 

 

Mortar and Pestle

This collectible mortar and pestle belonged to my granny who used it for smashing areca nut in her betel nut eating routine. If she is alive today, she would be 120 years old. So I believe this mortar and pestle to be at least 100 years old. Note the crooked pestle and the unsymmetrical mortar...this should be an indicator that this mortar and pestle is an antique, and a small one indeed.

 

 

Phone card - Masjid Ubudiah

Ubudiah Mosque @ RM5.00 phone card was issued by Telekom Malaysia. The Ubudiah Mosque is built on a hill in Kuala Kangsar, Perak. It is a unique architectural mosque that features golden domes and white columns. 

 

 

French Baguette Lock

French Baguette Lock is made of brass. It is a hardly piece and has been in my collection for 20 years. A replacement key from Yale (Made in England) is used for this antique French lock.

 

 

Chinese Old Style Lock

Chinese old style lock featured here was in my collection since 1970s. It is made of brass. Usually these chinese old style locks were craved with delicate designs. However, this piece has none. The key is a simple shaped "S".

Vintage Kingson Pocket Calculator

Vintage Kingson Pocket Calculator is a manually operated pocket calculator. It uses a stylus pen to move the digits for addition or subtraction.

Vintage Brass miniature Portrait frame

This vintage brass miniature photograph frame is at least 90 years old. Standing 9 cm with base 7 cm, this brass miniature portrait frame has delicate flower vine skirting the frame. The photograph is placed behind the glass for protection of the portrait. Under the brass surface is supported by wooden frame.

Brass Legged Telescoping Metal Tripod

Tripod was important especially during the early photography era as shutter speeds and films were slow. This brass legged telescoping metal tripod is made in Germany. Each leg measures 102 cm when fully stretched. When retracted, each leg measures 27.5 cm.

Kodak Brownie 127 Camera was made by Kodak Limited London, England. There were three models for Brownie 127 cameras. Early photography used many types of films. Among them were 120, 127 and the popular 135. This Brownie 127 used 127 film. This collection is the first Brownie 127 model which was manufactured from 1956 till 1959.

ITALIA 90 Soccer Souvenir Wall Plate

 

The 1990 World Cup was held in Italy. At that time, Maradona from Argentina was the household name in football. This soccer souvenir wall plate shows the map of Italy and the many touristic attractions including Torino-Mole Antoneliana, Trieste S. Giusto, Napoli-Castel Dell'ovo and the famous Colosseum in Rome. This plate was made by Mitterteich, Bavaria of W.Germany.

Sambutan Hari Kebangsaan Malaysia Ke 25

Independence Day (Merdeka Day) 25th Anniversary was on 31st August 1982. Kelantan Match Factory Sdn Bhd issued a special commemorative matchbox sold for 5 cents in 1982. The front depicts wildlife and the back of the box is the map of Malaysia and the national flower - hibiscus.

Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace 2003

Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace (LIMA 03) was held from 30th September till 5th October 2003 in Langkawi, Malaysia. LIMA exhibition begain in 1991 to showcase both commercial and defence related aerospace and maritime on the latest development. A commemorative 1 Ringgit (RM1.00) was sold during the exhibition by Central Bank of Malaysia (Bank Negara Malaysia).

This ceramic electric kettle has the faded texts shown as "WONDER JAR AUTOMATIC". It has a plastic cover. Probably it was made when plastic was introduced. Today there are many plastic electric kettle and stainless steel electric kettle. Boiling water in plastic could cause chemicals leaching into the water thus affecting our health. Modern society is reverting to ceramic wares. Google ceramic electric kettle and you should be able to see latest exotic ceramic kettle for sale.

Wooden Toilet Roll Holder

In 1950s, toilet roll holders were made of wood before plastics became popular. Today most toilet roll holders are made of plastics. Those on the high end are made of stainless steel. This wooden toilet roll holder has a spring to release itself from the wall.

Miniature Salem Matchbox

 

These miniature matchboxes were introduced by Salem. Size of matchbox is 1.1cm x 2.4 cm x 1.8 cm. Length of each match stick is 1.9 cm. Number of match sticks in each box is a dozen.

 

Salem is a brand of cigarettes introduced in 1956 by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company as the first filter-tipped menthol cigarette (Wikipedia, 2013).

Capital TK-72 Batteryless Light Meter

Light is an important component in photography. The correct exposure is important for a perfect photograph. This light meter requires no battery and measure the required exposures accurately especially for those using the classic camera. It is made in Japan and this product is now a vintage piece. Modern technology has built-in light senses in the camera without the need for extenal light meter.

Phonecard Spider-man 2 (2004)

 

This RM100 Hotlink prepaid phonecard featuring Spider-man 2 sold by Maxis in 2004 during the release of the Spider-Man 2 film.

 

Spider-Man 2 is a 2004 American superhero film directed by Sam Raimi and written by Alvin Sargent from a story by Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, and Michael Chabon. The sequel to the 2002 film Spider-Man, it is the second film in Raimi's Spider-Man film trilogy based on the fictional Marvel Comics character of the same name (Source: Wikipedia, 2013).

Clan Jetty Post Card

Clan Jetty is now part of the heritage of Georgetown, Penang.  It was built during the early 19th century housing labourers and porters who helped when ships and tongkangs docked at Penang. This undated post card shows Pulau Jerejak in the distance. Today you can visit these touristic clan jetties to have a peek at the lifestyle of the occupants.

Coin - 1 Pice, India, 1944

The coin above has a central hole, an Imperial Crown between 1 PICE and INDIA. Between 1944 is the denomination repeated on the left of the date in Hindi and on the right of the date in Urdu.

The reverse with the central hole is a serpentine wreath of vine leaves.

Ecstacy Post Cards from Khajuraho

Dug out from my post card collection is the Ecstacy in Indian Temple Sculpture from Khajuraho, India. There are 20 post cards in this booklet depicting wild sex which would be despised by many in our modern society today. These were the sex lives of ancient people in the 9th century. Below are 3 samples from the booklet. The top right shows sexual intercourse with a horse.

A&W I.Q. Puzzle

Puzzles are one of my favorite collection. This I.Q. Puzzles series 3 was acquired more than 20 years ago when A&W was at her fame in Malaysia. A&W is the first franchise fast food outlet in Malaysia. It was brought into Malaysia in 1963 before McDonald and KFC were even here.

Vintage Cenei Slide Viewer has been in my collection for years when slides are common during the 60s & 70s. This slide viewer is made in Germany. Cenei has many slide viewer models. They are sometime known as Scope Slide Viewers. With digital photography, slide photography will be the thing of the past.
